2 domains...1 site

Postby maria on Sat Feb 05, 2005 11:18 pm

Hi, I would like to know if Unflux can allow someone to have 2 links that go to the same one web site. The business has two names, and he wants them both to go to the same site. I'm assuming that is multiple hosting right, which you don't offer.

Is there a way where I can work something out to have one of the links get directed to the site?

Thanks.

one more question

Sorry, I have another question.
Do you provide e-mail account for the site.
For example: contact@yoursite.com

You are correct, we do not currently offer multi-domain hosting with our current packages. This is something we are considering in the near future however. For the time being, a domain pointer as you are describing, we can work something out with you for that.

To answer your emails question, you will have unlimited email addresses to use with your domain.

How do you get a domain pointer and how much does it cost? Does it come with the package or do you have to buy two packages?

You don't have to purchase more than one package, we'll give you access to set up the pointer through your cpanel. The charge for this is $5/mo per domain. This is much cheaper than purchasing another package, which of course as a pointer would be unnecessary.

We don't have the addon domain feature in our signup page, so when you're ready to sign up, fill out your info but don't go through the payment form when it redirects you. We will reply to your information with a special link to follow that will allow you to pay for the package including the extra domain.

So just send in the info, and don't pay yet until you respond back?

Just wondering, why can't he setup a redirect with his registrar, those are usally free with your domain.

Using a domain pointer through a host will give the flexibility of using that domain as it's own site. If that's not necessary, then going through the registrar to "point" the domain will of course work as well.

I'm somewhat confused now, what is a redirect? And how much does that cost? I thought that is what I was talking about. I only need one site, but the other site needs to be directed to it.

I'm sorry for any confusion, I was assuming you wanted to maintain the ability of having 2 sites. Since we are a little more clear as to what you need, then simply go for a package that fits your needs and then use your registrar to direct the domain for you. This service is free with most registrars, I know for a fact godaddy allows you to do so with their service. It would simply make it so when someone types domain 1 or 2 it would show the same site. It would be unnecessary for us to do this for you then.

He already paid for hostway.com, not godaddy. The domain includes:

Ad-free park page
Free domain forwarding
Domain locking
Web-based control panel, SiteControl

Is the free domain forwarding the same as a redirect? I had to make a quick decision because it had to be done today. Sorry I confused you all. I should have been more clear.

It's no problem, at least we figured out what you need. ;)

yes, the domain redirect is essentially the same thing as a domain pointer. You can use their service to "redirect" one domain to the one on our servers, then both domains would show the same site.
