MySQL databases

Postby minimalistik. on Mon May 02, 2005 10:55 pm

Hey there Unflux,

I am not familiar working with PHP and MYSQL for websites but in the long run, it will be beneficial for me. I was wondering about the number of MYSQL databases that your provide. the Basic plan has 10 databases. Do you actually need 10 or even less, say 5 databases? As I said, I am not working with databases right now, but in the long term, I would like to work with PHP and MYSQL.

In most cases, 1 or 2 databases is enough. Having more at your disposal simply provides flexibility to test, or develop without the rish of ruining a live db. Otherwise, it's just an option for you to explore or not.

If for example, I was developing a site using PHP/MySQL for a client, would it mean i just need 1-2 per client? What happens overtime with more clients?

I know it is possible create specific tables for specific clients you have!!! You can have 1 or 2 databases for only clients!!!

It is expected that designers and developers would have enough flexibility under our current plans to do what they need to do, and rotate their resources to fill project needs. We have found it very unlikely that someone would need more than we offer, but we realize and understand unique situations can arise. If you need more databases (or other server resources) we can provide those for you at request. What we recommend is that you simply choose a package that suits your needs to begin with.

It is also possible to do as GuestUser suggests, but that can be messy in development to production. If you are able to stay organized and maintain structures, this option is certainly an acceptable solution.
