Website Problem

Postby craig on Fri May 25, 2007 5:58 pm

Having changing the nameservers to point in the direction of UNFLUX host package i recently bought it doesn't appear to be showing the files.

I actually got an email from my old host notifying me that it could to take up to 48 hours for it to properly switch over. It is now nearer 72 hours since i changed the nameservers.

I wondered what the problem might be? it could be that i might have made a small mistake somewhere. It would be really cool if someone could get in touch as soon as possible. As you can imagine, it is a pain not having the site appear online when people type in the address.

Thanks.

I looked at your dns settings and they seem to be fine. I'm thinking that cpanel did not create your account properly. I'd like to remove the current one and create a new one for you, but you already have some files on there. How were you able to do that?

I managed to configure the FTP software to allow me to access the files with the information you provided in the welcome email. I then moved them over from my old site host.

I have copies of these files so you can easily remove it if you want and recreate the account.

Thanks!

ok, I recreated the account and that seems to have done the trick. I used the same user info you were sent originally. You can see the forbidden page that comes up by default on all new accounts directly here: http://www.craigc.co.uk/

can't wait to see your site!

Ok, this is quite odd.

I uploaded the files back onto the site again and it appears blank. I'm pretty sure it's probably a problem on my end but if i'm honest with you i have no idea. I'm gonna keep playing about with it until it is fixed. If you know what the problem might be then i look forward to the reply.

Regarding the site itself, it's nothing special. Going to spend some time developing it over the next few months.

Thanks!

Yeah, they should be in my included files. I have designed the site so that the pages include my two "Include" pages. All HTML and CSS data as well as other information is in them. The index, about, page etc etc is just has the include info and the body text.

Ok, i see what you are saying now. I am going to have to do a bit of a revamp of the way i write my code. I'm not so sure what's so different with what i have already. Probably not the best way of doing things, but i figured it would make things quicker in the long run where i only have the one file to change the css info etc etc.

Thanks though. The problem wasn't at your end, it was me. Oops!

Or at least that was what i was thinking. It just doesn't like PHP at all.

your thought is correct, but the execution isn't going to work. no matter what includes you use for php, you still will need html in there for th e page to render properly.

Hi UNFLUX,

I found out that the problem was the AddType & AddHandler directives i added to the htaccess file were causing the PHP in my files to be ignored, i.e. not parsed. Thus, all my PHP was being treated as plain text - if i loaded up my about.php page (for example), you could actually see my "include" statements in the page source.

This was something that my previous host ignored hence why it was kinda confusing when i started up the hosting with you. Problem solved though.

Site is online with a few minor things i need to change. Some files i thought i uploaded are not there, and favicon and other bits are needing some bits needing done to it. Just need to get the guestbook set up with the new database and sort out the contact form and things should start taking shape before i do my huge revamp.

Thanks again.

Oh good point. I hadn't thought of that and wasn't looking for it when I was poking around. Glad you let me know in case we run into it again. Glad to see your site up!
